BEHIND THE LOOM: MARK GRIGALUNAS, MASTER WEAVER IN MILLBROOK, NY.
“It’s all about the yarn” Says Mark Grigalunas, and wow is that evident in looking at his stunning works for his collection Hidden Falls Wovens.
The majority of yarn he uses are hand blended and twisted, into never seen before blends, unique combinations of fibers.
Each intricate blanket is fully handmade, from combining yarns, to an incredibly intricate weaving process, and then the finishing process where other custom yarns are hand woven by him to create weft fringe or interesting effect.
All of these blankets are true works of art; some feature a play of matte and shine, others have several textures and fiber combinations making each one stunningly unique, all in beautifully considered color palettes.

Mark Grigalunas, has been designing textiles for the home furnishings industry for over 40 years. Mark graduated from UMass / Dartmouth, where he earned his BFA in Textile Design & Technology. He worked for Cohama Riverdale Mills for 3 years upon graduating before he was approached by Sunbury Textile Mills, Inc. to become Director of Design. Mark later became Senior Vice President of Design. The scope of his position involved all aspects of textile production, from research and development of new yarns and finishes, to overseeing a large staff of designers and developing and reviewing multiple product lines, to marketing and maintaining client relationships and collaborations.
